Prior to her appointment, Dr. Mudallali was based in Washington DC, as the principal advisor on American Affairs to Prime Minister Saad Hariri of Lebanon. She also followed United Nations issues, including the work of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
From 2013-2016, Dr. Mudallali was a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, focusing on American-Arab relations, the Middle East (Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Yemen), the United Nations, and nuclear proliferation.
Dr. Mudallali served as late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri’s foreign policy advisor from 2000-2005, as well as his Spokeswoman for the foreign press and head of his International Press Office from 1998-2000.
The Founder and President of Bridges International Group, a political consulting firm in Washington, she also served as Director of Government Affairs at Duane Morris, LLP, from 2010-2011, advising on issues related to Lebanon.
Dr. Mudallali worked in Washington as a foreign correspondent for many leading Arabic and English language broadcasters and publications, including BBC Arabic Service, An-Nahar Newspaper, Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands. She is the author of numerous articles on American policy toward the Arab World and the Middle East. Her articles appeared in Foreign Policy and the National Interest Magazine, and she also contributed to CNN World Report. She conceived and edited a book titled “The United Nations for Lebanon, UN Resolutions on Lebanon 1958-2008,” published by the Press Office of Prime Minister Saad Hariri.
Ambassador Mudallali holds a Ph.D. in Political Communication from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in political communication from Syracuse University, New York. She also received a B.A. in Mass Communication from the Lebanese University.
Dr. Amal Mudallali was awarded Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur. She is the recipient of the 2011 University of Maryland Achievement Award, the Department of Journalism.
